Betty Kessel McLaughlin was born on February 17, 1922 the daughter of Dr. Charles Royall Kessel and Ruby Staats Kessel. She lived in Ripley, West Virginia until shortly after World War II when she married her loving husband, Hugh Price McLaughlin, of forty-two years.Betty was a pre-med student at WVU but after marriage taught high school biology in several school systems.
